Wondering why I’m dressed like I attend a prep school? Well I’ll tell ya.
One of my goals this year is to read more. I know, so is everyone else’s. But I love reading, one of the biggest treats as a kid was reading ten books and writing book reports then I would be able to go to the book store and pick out a new book to read and the cycle repeated #homeschooledlife haha! I have always enjoyed a good book but at the beginning of my junior year of high school when I began running start I quit reading as much because there was SO much assigned reading, homework, and no more sustained silent reading (you know you ain’t in high school anymore when SSR doesn’t exist) so leisure reading went out the window.
Since I have graduated and have a little more free time I am determined to get back in to reading more. But not just reading any old book I want to read rich literature, the kind of book that is so full of knowledge you feel yourself becoming more intelligent by the second. I know, so poetic.
So my plan of attack is to take Rory Gilmore’s reading list from the show Gilmore Girls and complete it! If you have no clue what I’m talking about I’m only judging you a little bit. Kidding, however if you have seen the show or know who Rory is you know her and her love of books is legendary.
“I live in two worlds. One is a world of books. I’ve been a resident of Faulkner’s Yoknapatawpha County, hunted the white whale aboard the Pequod, fought alongside Napoleon, sailed a raft with Huck and Jim, committed absurdities with Ignatius J. Reilly, rode a sad train with Anna Karenina and strolled down Swann’s Way. It’s a rewarding world…” -Rory Gilmore
The goal is one “classic” a month and I will report back each month to y’all and then begin another book. Consider this a book club. I’m starting this month off with an easy one, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. If you choose to jump back into reading as well, let me know what book you are reading for the month!
looking forward to the next #RoryGilmoreReadingChallenge post already!
