OUR WEDDING

On April 25th, 2019 my boyfriend, who was away at college at the time, FaceTimed me for what was supposed to be our weekly FaceTime date. I thought that he was hours away in his college apartment, but he was outside of my house! He wouldn’t answer any questions about why he was here with me instead of 120 miles away at school. We drove for what felt like forever and I noticed he became more and more nervous as we approached our destination. We arrived at a Dam that was a special place to him, and was moments away from becoming a special place to both of us. As we got out of the car he positioned himself and dropped to a knee to ask me the question I had been waiting years to hear and he had been waiting years to ask. I screamed “YES!” We cried, we laughed, we hugged for minutes on end. We took pictures, we soaked in what had just happened, and we prayed together before texting, calling, and FaceTiming family and friends. We decided then and there that in exactly one year we wanted to get married, and the count down began.

On April 25th, 2020 one of my older brothers drove me in his Dodge Challenger out to the same Dam where my groom had proposed a year earlier. My finace and I exchanged vows with just our immediate family. We took communion, prayed together, got MARRIED, and it was still the best day ever even though this wasn’t the wedding we planned. The day looked much different than either of us ever imagined but we did what we could to make it a special day. The love and support that surrounded us made us realize how fortunate and blessed we are, no matter how close or far away our loved ones were.
